First This Gay Man Wanted to Protest the Mormon Church-Now He’s a Member

First This Gay Man Wanted to Protest the Church-Now He’s a Member. He steals the Book of Mormon. Who is Dennis?

I am an openly gay man who feels nothing but love from members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I was told my entire life; God rejected me and I was going to hell merely for my sexual orientation. I needed to change my entire persona and become straight. This left such a bad taste in my mouth about organized religion. I refused to attend any church for many, many years.

Latter-day Saints taught me; Heavenly Father loves ALL of His children. Regardless of their sexual orientation. We are all children of God, and we should leave judgment to the Savior. It is not our place. We are asked only to love. Having received First Presidency approval to have my endowment early, is a constant reminder, He knows all of us by name. #SpreadLove

I serve as an Elders Quorum First Counselor, Ward Mission Leader. Assisting Church leaders, Mission Presidents, sisters, and elders to better understand how to work and deal with the LGBTQ community, creating a better understanding amongst all people.

I pray that my story, Instagram post, etc. Strengthens your faith in our church and in our savior, Jesus Christ. As I post scripture study, thoughts, and my life journey. As we all @strivetobe 💗 & @comeuntochrist

Color Coding your Scripture Study

People ask me all the time why my Book of Mormon is so colorful 🎨 I created a unique system of scripture verse highlighting. Each color represents a category of learning:

💙 Book Sections (1 Nephi, 2nd Nephi, Jacob, etc…)

💛 Lessons with the missionaries

💖 Huge aha moments, my favorite verses, personal lessons with church leaders, etc.

💚 Messages from ministering, home teachings and FHE’s

🧡 My ongoing studies

How do you highlight or mark your scriptures? I am still learning and would love your suggestions for how I can make my system even better! Please post in the comments with your ideas!

Anniversary of my Baptism as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ

The three-year anniversary of my baptism as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ.
I remember opening my eyes during the opening prayer to look around the room at everyone who was there to support me: Derek & Shelby Hall, my ward members, many other close friends, and my parents.

When we were in the font, I looked up and saw such a lovely group of friends and family crowded around to watch. I took a minute to make eye contact with a few people, and then Derek pronounced the baptismal prayer. Down I went the plunge. I was warm, floating. As I was lifted back up to the air, I was lightheaded, refreshed, with a new sense of well-being and a revitalized purpose in life.

As the service closed, I was able to visit with everyone who came to support me in this major life step. I took pictures with as many people as possible to add to my photo journal to remember the day. Even then, I wondered if some friends came out of plain curiosity. But I prayed that as they experienced this with me, they would understand why I chose to do this.

I felt peace. I had a new start to my life, a second chance to find true joy and meaning in life! August 19, 2017, forever changed my life!

All are welcome to @comeuntochrist
How long ago was it and what do you remember about your baptism day that made it special❓

Are we Worthy to Administer Sacrament?

Past few Sundays, I’ve been battling worthiness. Not feeling worthy to administer the sacrament. So, I deployed my buddy system. 😇 A huge thank you to all who have encouraged me and holding myself accountable. In these uncertain times, with this global pandemic. I’m sure all of us are battling our inner challenges. My good friend Craig Johansson shared this wisdom on Sunday.

“In Matthew, Chapter 8. Jesus heals a leper. Cures the centurion’s servant and others, stills the tempest, and casts out devils—The devils enter a herd of swine.

1. When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him.

2. And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

3. And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.” So, here’s why I love this scripture. Lepers were banished from the city. They were avoided. People distances themselves from them. Nobody touched them. Few people talked to them.

What I love is the fact that it said Jesus reached forth his hand and touched him. Jesus didn’t need to touch him to be healed. He could have just said it. However, Christ knew that the leper needed to be touch, a human touch he probably hadn’t felt for decades.

Don’t we all need human interaction❓

Christ knows what WE need and he will bless us in a personal way. 🌟 Let a friend know, they are loved.

What does the Word Atonement Mean?

What does the word atonement mean?

Sister Sutton with Dennis Schleicher

President Boyd K. Packer explained: “The English word atonement, made of three words: at-one-ment, which means to set at one; one with God; to reconcile, to conciliate, to expiate. But did you know that the atonement appears only once in the English New Testament? (Romans 5:8 11)

Only once in the New Testament but 39 times in the Book of Mormon. What better to validate or confirm that the Book of Mormon is indeed another testament to bear witness of Jesus Christ?

I resonate with the unconditional and conditional blessing of the atonement. If we constantly strive to develop faith in Jesus Christ, repent and are baptized, we are cleansed from our past discretions. Through the gift of the Holy Ghost, we can be sanctified in worthy to remain in heavenly father’s presence. As we all strive to become more like Him.

What does the atonement of Jesus Christ in our gospel mean to you?
